Common Energy Scale for Magnetism and Superconductivity in Underdoped Cuprates: A Muon Spin Resonance Investigation of CaxLa12x Ba1.752xLa0.251x Cu3Oy

چکیده
We characterize the spontaneous magnetic field, and determine the associated temperature Tg, in the superconducting state of CaxLa12x Ba1.752xLa0.251x Cu3Oy using zero and longitudinal field muon spin resonance measurements for various values of x and y. Our major findings are (i) Tg and Tc are controlled by the same energy scale, (ii) the phase separation between hole poor and hole rich regions is a microscopic one, and (iii) spontaneous magnetic fields appear gradually with no moment size evolution.

Energy-scale phenomenology and pairing via resonant spin-charge motion in FeAs, CuO, heavy-fermion and other exotic superconductors
Muon spin relaxation (μSR) studies of the “1111” and “122” FeAs systems have detected static magnetism with variably sized ordered moments in their parent compounds. The phase diagrams of FeAs, CuO, organic BEDT, A3C60 and heavy-fermion systems indicate competition between static magnetism and superconductivity, associated with first-order phase transitions at quantum phase boundaries. In both ...
متن کاملHigh-field μSR studies of superconducting and magnetic correlations in cuprates above T(c).
The advent of high transverse field muon spin rotation (TF-μSR) has led to recent μSR investigations of the magnetic field response of cuprates above the superconducting transition temperature T(c). Here the results of such experiments on hole-doped cuprates are reviewed. Although these investigations are currently ongoing, it is clear that the effects of high field on the internal magnetic fie...
متن کاملCoexistence and competition of magnetism and superconductivity on the nanometer scale in underdoped BaFe1.89Co0.11As2.
We report muon spin rotation (μSR) and infrared spectroscopy experiments on underdoped BaFe1.89Co0.11As2 which show that bulk magnetism and superconductivity (SC) coexist and compete on the nanometer length scale. Our combined data reveal a bulk magnetic order, likely due to an incommensurate spin density wave (SDW), which develops below T(mag)≈32 K and becomes reduced in magnitude (but not in...
متن کاملCommon energy scale for magnetism and superconductivity in cuprates
Many compounds based on CuO2 planes (cuprates) superconduct below a critical temperature Tc. Some of them show a second phase where a spontaneous static magnetic field appears below a critical temperature Tg, which is lower than Tc. By comparing Tc and Tg in numerous superconducting families, each with its own maximum Tc, we find that the same energy scale determines both critical temperatures....
متن کاملStatic and dynamic magnetism in underdoped superconductor BaFe1.92Co0.08As2.
We report neutron scattering measurements on single crystals of BaFe1.92Co0.08As2. The magnetic Bragg peak intensity is reduced by 6% upon cooling through TC. The spin dynamics exhibit a gap of 8 meV with anisotropic three-dimensional interactions. Below TC additional intensity appears at an energy of approximately 4.5(0.5) meV, similar to previous observations of a spin resonance in other Fe-b...
